Glee star Darren Criss makes his Broadway debut on January 3 as J. Pierrepont Finch in the hit revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, performing through January 22 only at Broadway's Al Hirschfeld Theatre. To celebrate the arrival of this exciting new stage star, we've gathered five must-see videos of Criss tackling Harry Potter, Katy Perry, West Side Story and more.
“Part of Your World” (The Little Mermaid)
Before joining Glee, Criss was just another guy with a guitar, a video camera and a YouTube account. Check out the shaggy, pre-Glee Criss as he performs an acoustic cover of The Little Mermaid anthem “Part of Your World.”
“Goin’ Back to Hogwarts” (A Very Potter Musical)
Criss became an internet sensation in the mock tuner A Very Potter Musical, a show he created with StarKid Productions. Coincidentally, Criss is now replacing the real Harry Potter, Daniel Radcliffe, in How to Succeed. See how he channels Harry in the opening number, “Goin’ Back to Hogwarts.”
“Teenage Dream” (Glee)
A star is born! Criss' breakout moment came in November 2010 when he joined Glee as Blaine Anderson. His cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” became the fastest-selling single in Glee history, even outselling Perry’s original rendition!
“Not Alone” (Trevor Live Concert)
An avid supporter of the LGBT community, Criss opened Trevor Live, an event benefitting The Trevor Project, with his original song “Not Alone.” Little known fact: Criss originally wrote the song for pop sensation Adele.
“Something’s Coming” (West Side Story)
When McKinley High tackled West Side Story, Glee fans saw a different side of Darren Criss. His solid performance as Tony provided a lovely segue to the young actor's real-life Broadway debut. Watch the new How to Succeed star bring excitement and joy to “Something’s Coming.”
